Porter Wins Special School Board Election

A measly 3.38 percent of Nashua's 56,600 voters cast ballots Tuesday propelling Susan Porter to a three-to-one win over Sandra Ziehm.

NASHUA, NH — A special election was held today to replace a school board member in Nashua who abruptly resigned last year. According to the unofficial results, Susan Porter bested Sandra Ziehm, by a nearly three-to-one margin, 1,436 to 453. Only 3.38 percent of the cities 56,595 registered voters cast ballots, according to City Clerk Patricia Piecuch.

Twenty-four new voters registered to vote today, according to the city.

Robert Hallowell, according to the New Hampshire Union Leader, caused the special election by resigning a few weeks after the city elections in November saying it was difficult to have productive conversations about improving education in the city. He served about 10 years on the board.
