Resident Detains Burglar Caught in the Act

Quick action by the resident resulted in an arrest, after he flagged down a passing police cruiser.

A city man was arrested in connection with an alleged residential burglary after a West Hollis Street resident flagged down police for help.

Travis Laponsee, 28, of 7 ½ Pleasant Street, Nashua, was arrested Oct. 9 charged with burglary, a class B felony.

Police said the victim, who lives on West Hollis Street, spotted Laponsee near his home just after 5 p.m. on Oct. 9. Although the two do not know one another, police said the victim recognized Laponsee from the neighborhood.

The victim told police that 10 minutes later he saw Laponsee walking away from his home carrying a bag that he recognized as belonging to him, containing property allegedly taken from his home.

Police said as the victim was in the process of confronting Laponsee outside the home and "verbally detained him" while he flagged down a passing police cruiser.

Following an investigation by detectives, Laponsee was arrested and charged with burglary. Laponsee was held at Nashua Police station on $10,000 cash/surety bail, pending arraignment at the 9th in Circuit Nashua District Division Court.
