River Walk and Trash Haul

Figuring it was just the right time two members of the Mine Falls Advisory Committee, Secretary Joshua Segal and chairman Greg Andruskevich, yours truly, volunteered to clean some of trash which had been collecting under the Lincoln Park pedestrian bridge eastward with the lowering of the Nashua River. Photos show the haul from the low tide of the Nashua River along the Purple Trail.  We numerous items to iclude one thoroughly woaked winter jacket, two flashboards from the dam, tires, parts of a boat, bottles, cans, a six by six erosion bar, swimming shorts, bicycle parts including seat and tires and handle bars, An Alexanders shopping cart, part of another shopping cart, empty barrel, iron pipe,,huge, and enough small stuff to fill two trash cans and one more trash bag.  There were also plenty of fresh water mussels still in the sand and water many of which are still alive.. I also acted as "red flag man" in case any boaters came by. There are also tons of trees in the water qhich may  hinder navigation. We figured the lowering of the water gave us an opportune time to get rid of some of the stuff park users could see when walking the purple trail. A huge success and thanked by many who offered us praise and will report to at the  Trail Day on Aug. 17 and register at Lincoln Park at 9 a.m. More volunteers are needed for that day. It was also hard to believe we were standing in what was a raging river a couple of weeks ago. Photos depict Joshua, nyself and trash.
