Six Incumbent Democrats Lose House Seats in Nashua

Republicans take 13 of 27 seats.

According to unofficial returns released by the Associated Press, six incumbent Democrats lost their seats on Nov. 4, assisting Republicans in gaining back 10 more seats than they had last session in the House of Representatives.

In Hillsborough District 28/Ward 1 race, Republicans Carl Seidel and Elizabeth Ferreira have won two seats, with 1,927 and 1,791 votes. Eric Eastman, another Republican, came in third with 1,638 votes, besting incumbent Democrat state Rep. Sylvia Gale by six votes and state Rep. Jan Schmidt by 14 votes. Another Democrat, Thomas Woodward, came in sixth.

In Hillsborough District 29/Ward 2 race, Democrat Suzanne Harvey topped the ticket with 1,499 votes. Also winning seats were Republicans Peggy McCarthy and Donald McClarren. Kenneth Ziehm, another Republican, came in fourth. Incumbent Democratic state Rep. Suzanne Vail finished fifth with 1,255 votes. Another Democrat, Ward Shaff, came in sixth.

In Hillsborough District 30/Ward 3 race, incumbent Democrat state Rep. Cindy Rosenwald retained her seat with 1,456 votes. Republican Lisa Scontsas came in second with 1,441 votes. Another Democrat, Alan Cohen, came in third. Incumbent Democrat state Rep. Mariellen MacKay was defeated with 16 percent of the vote. Two other Republicans – Howard Coffman and Jeffrey Creem – came in fifth and sixth.

In Hillsborough District 31/Ward 4 race, all the incumbent Democrats, State Reps. Mary Gorman, David Cote, and Pamela Brown, all won re-election easily. Elizabeth Van Twuyver, Austin Hogan, and Alicen Hogan, all Republicans received between 11 and 13 percent of the vote.

In Hillsborough District 32/Ward 5 race, two incumbent Republicans – state Reps. David Murotake and Don LeBrun – easily won re-election with 1,929 and 1,895 votes. A third Republican, Barry Palmer, easily won the third seat. Democrats Michael Pedersen, Raymond Labrecque, and Rita MacAuslan, all trailed behind.

In Hillsborough District 33/Ward 6 race, incumbent Democrats state Reps. Ken Gidge, and Efstathia Booras, both won re-election while newcomer Lee Guerette, another Democrat, tied Booras with 1,055 votes. Three Republicans – Ron Simoneau, Troy Saunders, and Michael Reed – were all behind the leaders.

In Hillsborough District 34/Ward 7 race, incumbent Democrat state Rep. Timothy Soucy retain his seat along with two newcomers, Republicans Timothy Twombly and Edith Hogan. Allison Nutting, another Democrat, fell 30 votes short while Republican Duane Erickson and incumbent Democratic state Rep. Michael Garcia trailed far behind.

In Hillsborough District 35/Ward 8 race, two incumbent Democratic state Reps. Latha Mangipudi and Daniel Hansberry won re-election. Pete Silva, a former Republican state representative, returns to the Statehouse. Republicans Ed Stebbins and Ronald Brophy, along the Democrat Donald Jean, were unsuccessful.

In Hillsborough District 36/Ward 9, Republican Bill Ohm topped the ticket with 1,531 votes. Incumbent Democratic state Reps. Michael O’Brien, and Marty Jack, both won re-election. Republicans Joseph Krasucki, and Will Brown, trailed behind along with incumbent Democratic state Rep. Linda Harriot-Gathright, who came in fifth.
