Society needs suckering

When I was a kid in Northern Connecticut I picked tobacco for a local farmer. One of the activities we performed in order to produce a vibrant plant was called suckering, or pruning bad leaves so the plant could focus all of its energy on producing the best. Failure to sucker produced a bad plant.

This is how I see the American community today, a bad plant because we are failing to sucker it. I see President Obama and almost everyone in Washington continuing to try to improve society by doing more of the same instead of reforming what has not been working. Every day I find myself thinking, that is the opposite of what I would hope they would do.

Our society is dying because it is encumbered with a bunch of junk that will never grow. Not only can it not grow but the junk is destroying the rest of society with it. Our people have tremendous potential and our core identity is exceptional. The bad leaves are a noxious culture, immorality, too much government central planning, programs, professionals, and an artificial economy. We need to sucker those leaves.

If we can do this we might create a renaissance like we have never seen. If we continue business as usual, we will die a slow death.

Consequently, people often ask me why I don't just stay positive and focus on the future. I may do more of that in 2014, but for now there is a lot of suckering that needs to be done. There is a season for everything.
