Staples laid off hundreds of workers Monday, according to a report.

NASHUA, NH — Staples on Monday reportedly laid off “hundreds” of workers as it struggles to complete a merger with Office Depot.

The layoffs were first reported by Fortune.
In a press release Tuesday, Staples said the move will “speed decision-making and enable us to focus on driving profitable growth.”

Staples has two stores in Nashua. It was immediately unclear if workers there were affected.
Staples is based in Framingham, Mass. and has over 100 New England stores.

Federal regulators last month blocked Staples’ planned merger with Office Depot on grounds it would create a monopoly in the business supply marketplace.
