Student Charged for Oxycodone Possession

Police arrested Bhavik Patel on Dec. 23.

A Nashua High School South student faces up to seven years in prison for a felony charge of possession of narcotics after he was caught with oxycodone on school property.

Bhavik Patel, 17, of 5 Tamora Court, Nashua, was charged with possession of a narcotic drug, a Class B felony, following his arrest Dec. 23 at approximately 1:30 p.m.

Police were notified by a school resource officer that Patel was reportedly in possession of a small quantity of the drug while on the grounds of Nashua High School. Patel did not have a prescription for the drug.

Nashua Police Lt. Frank Sullivan said because oxycodone is considered a Schedule II drug, and the chance of addiction is high, it's something the school and the police take seriously.

"The school is sending a clear message that having this type of narcotic on school property will not be tolerated," Sullivan said.

A class B felony is punishable by up to seven years imprisonment, exclusive of fines. Patel was released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bail, pending arraignment at the Nashua District Court on January 20, 2012.
