Truck Driver Falls Asleep, Crashes Into Nashua Cruiser: Police

NASHUA, NH — A man driving a pickup truck fell asleep and slammed into a parked Nashua police cruiser Thursday night, police said. Sgt. Brian Trefry was in the vehicle and injured, police said.

Police said the man was driving a Ford F-250; that vehicle can exceed 6,000 pounds. Both vehicles sustained "heavy" damage, police said.

The crash happened Thursday at about 5:57 p.m. on Crown Street just east of Chase Street. Trefry was conducting an investigation into an earlier crash in that area.

"Despite some injuries Sgt. Trefry was able to radio for assistance and check the condition of the other operator, who reported no injuries," Nashua police Captain Eric Nordengren said in a statement.

Trefry was treated at a local hospital and released.

"The investigation is ongoing however initial indications at the scene were that the operator of the pickup truck fell asleep while driving causing the accident," Nordengren said in a statement.
