Virginia Man Arrested On Threat, Stalking, Disobeying An Officer Charges In Nashua
Ian Hawes of Alexandria, VA, was accused of threatening to drive to NH to kill a woman and torch her house if she did not give him money.

NASHUA, NH — A man from Virginia is facing several charges after being accused of threatening to kill a woman.
On April 12, just past 3:30 p.m., Nashua police took a report from a woman who claimed Ian Hawes, 57, of Alexandria, VA, had threatened to kill her and burn her house down if she did not give him money. The pair were known to each other, and she had previously given him money but refused to give him more. The woman said Hawes said he was in New York and would be driving to New Hampshire, the report said.
"I'm going to kill you … I will come to your house,” she accused him of saying, “I will burn it down, I will find you at your job, I will start with burning your car, you will never know when I'm coming because I'm going to come for you … I have a gun, and I will shoot you.”

Police attempted to reach Hawes, but an affidavit said his cell phone was shut off.
Just before 7 p.m., police began pinging his cell phone and found him on Interstate 95 in Providence, Rhode Island, the report said. Another ping, about an hour later, had him on the Everett Turnpike in Nashua, a detective said. About 15 minutes later, cops pinged his cellphone and found him in the area of East Spitbrook Road, a few miles from the complainant’s home, an affidavit stated. Officers found Hawes in the Motel 6 parking lot and attempted to stop him on the Daniel Webster Highway, but he refused to stop and sped away into Massachusetts, the report said. Hawes was accused of being clocked at 110 mph, and information was given to Massachusetts State Police and Tyngsborough officers.

A little past 9 p.m., he was found on Dunstable Road, complaining of having a medical reaction, and requested to be taken to the hospital, the report said.
Police interviewed staff at Motel 6 and confirmed he booked a room but had keycard issues, according to security footage. He then left the area, the detective said.
Around 10 p.m., an officer took a K-9 to the Dunstable Road stop in Tyngsborough, MA. During a search, the K-9, Yukon “showed a change in behavior near a gym bag that was resting on the edge of the trunk,” the report said. This behavior change occurred when Yukon “detected the presence of an explosive or ballistic odor commonly associated with firearms,” police said.
“Yukon suddenly offered an independent response by touching his nose to the bag, which is his final response when he has detected the source of the odor,” the detective wrote.
Back at the Motel 6, neither Yukon did not sense any odors, and the officer did not find any firearms, the report said.
Detectives attempted to question Hawes at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, but he declined to respond, requesting an attorney, an affidavit said.
Detectives seized his Honda Civic and had it towed from Tyngsborough to Nashua, the report said, and requested a search warrant.
On April 13, a warrant was issued against Hawes for a felony count of domestic violence-criminal threatening as well as stalking-domestic violence and disobeying an officer charges. He was arrested later. Hawes was arraigned in Hillsborough County Superior Court South on April 13 and refused bail.
If convicted, Hawes faces up to nine years in prison and fines.
