When Is the Red Sox Opening Game?

The team will take on the Detroit Tigers today.

The Boston Red Sox season opener is Thursday at 1:05 p.m. when the team travels to Comerica Park to take on the Detroit Tigers.

The game will be televised on NESN and ESPN2. It will be broadcast on radio by WEEI (93.7 FM/850 AM) and WWZN (1510 AM).

Jon Lester will be the starting pitcher for the Red Sox. He will take on Tigers' Justin Verlander. The Tigers also feature slugger Prince Fielder, who signed a huge contract worth more than $200 million on the offseason.

The Sox will be without closer Andrew Bailey, who will be out until the All-Star break due to thumb surgery. Former New York Yankee Alfredo Aceves will be the closer until Bailey returns.dek

The home opener for the Red Sox is Friday, April 13. Boston will take on Tampa Bay at 2:05 p.m.
