World Academy Teacher Sri Sankar Among NH's Top Teachers in 2018
This local recognition honors Sankar for her outstanding work to spark students' interest in mathematics.
Srilakshmi Sankar, a math teacher and Assistant Principal at World Academy in Nashua, was recognized by ParentingNH in December as one of "New Hampshire's Top Teachers 2018" for distinguished mathematics teaching at the middle and high school levels. This recognition places Sankar among the state's top-rated educators for her outstanding work to spark students’ interest in mathematics.
This recognition also comes on the heels of Sankar being honored by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) in August with the Edyth May Sliffe Award for distinguished mathematics teaching at the middle and high school levels.
“Sri Sankar is such a strong member of our teaching staff and mentor to our students here at World Academy,” said Dr. Lisa Dias, World Academy’s Head of School. “We are so thrilled to see Sri recognized by ParentingNH and by our communities for her outstanding professionalism and excellent results in getting our students excited, engaged, and excelling in mathematics.”
Sankar first joined the World Academy staff as teacher and coach in 2006. After a short break to have her children, she returned in 2009 and has been teaching since.

"I bring to the classroom, not only the international experience that I have, but also the dedication and passion for teaching through content knowledge and practical applications with a focus on 21st-century skills along with strategies to teach culturally diverse students," said Sankar. "I believe in the need to have a positive relationship with students, their families and my colleagues."
2018 marked ParentingNH's second-annual Top Teacher issue, for which readers send in submissions nominating a teacher that has made a difference in their school and community. Only five educators across the state were selected for this recognition, and all will be honored during an on-the-field ceremony held before a New Hampshire Fisher Cats game in the spring.
