The YMCA of Greater Nashua is pleased to announce that its Arts & Humanities program has been accredited by The Arts Commission of the City of Nashua.

The City of Nashua has established an accreditation program to recognize the contributions that have been made by local artists, non-profit organizations, for profit organizations and special events which have demonstrated a continued commitment to enriching the lives of area residents through the Visual and the Performing Arts. To be accredited, applicants must have demonstrated a commitment to the arts through a consistent expenditure of their own resources to provide programs, which benefit the Nashua community at large.

“The Arts Commission is pleased to offer this accreditation to the YMCA of Greater Nashua” said Liz Racioppi, Commission Chair. “Their arts programs have already made a big difference to so many in the community, and we hope this will serve to get them the additional visibility they deserve.”

According to Tiffany Joslin, Director of Enrichment & Family Services at the Nashua Y, “Our program started out very small as a dance program. Soon after we started the program we saw the need of more arts programming in the community. So we began to explore music, and the visual arts. All of our programs have grown tremendously over the last 10 years. We now are offering a variety of arts programs in the performance, and visual arts. We have a large dance program with over 300 students. We offer classes for kids and adults starting at 3 years old. Our progressive dance program runs from September through June and ends with a recital at Elm Street Middle School. Besides dance we also offer a variety of music based classes (youth guitar classes, an adult chorus, musical theater classes, private voice and music lessons).  As for the visual arts we offer classes for youth and adults that focus on design, drawing, painting, sculpting, and other art forms.”

“We are thrilled to be acknowledged by the Arts Commission of the City of Nashua as an accredited program. We know our children and their parents appreciate our vast offerings and quality programs, but this endorsement is important to us,” Joslin said.

Open to the entire community, regardless of a family’s ability to pay, the primary goal of the arts and humanities program is to provide a safe, non-judgmental, affordable, atmosphere for kids and adults to enrich their lives through the arts. It gives them a place to go to express their feelings, and better their self-esteem. The YMCA joins other organizations accredited by the Nashua Arts Commission, including Symphony NH, ActorSingers, the Nashua Chamber Orchestra, City Arts Nashua, the Nashua Community Music School, the International Sculpture Symposium, Northern Ballet Theater, and the Spartans Drum & Bugle Corp.
