YMCA Collects Nearly 400 Pounds of Donated Candy for the Troops

The Y is partnering with the American Legion in Pelham to send the candy overseas

YMCA Collects Candy for the Troops

The YMCA of Greater Nashua collected and delivered close to 400 pounds of candy to the American Legion in Pelham, NH, on Sunday night. The candy will accompany an already amazing donation of 500 stuffed Christmas stockings donated by the American Legion that will be shipped to our deployed troops overseas by Operation Care for the Troops.

“Operation Care For Troops” began as a family and friends effort to provide needed but not easy to obtain items to the founders’ family members serving in Afghanistan and in Iraq. Soon, the fellow soldiers were requesting items and the grass root effort of the family, friends and local community volunteers were sending care packages to fulfill these requests. Word spread and care packages were being sent all over the world to our deployed service men and women in harm's way.

The candy was donated by the children and families of the YMCA during a 10-day candy drive following Halloween. Pictured above is one of 8 large cases that were delivered. If not for their amazing support this would not have been possible.

During the Holiday Season the YMCA of Greater Nashua will also participate in the "Holiday Cards for our Military Challenge". The primary goal of Holiday Cards for our Military Challenge is the collection and delivery of personalized, signed expressions of respect, caring and gratitude to deployed U.S. troops.
