YMCA of Greater Nashua represented at YMCA General Assembly

Local Y volunteers and staff attend YMCA General Assembly in Philadelphia

 

The YMCA of Greater Nashua sent 6 delegates to the YMCA General Assembly in Philadelphia from July 18-21. Representing the local Y were volunteers Denis Dancoes, chairman of the board of directors and Jay Maiona, immediate past president. Also attending was YMCA Chief Executive Office Michael LaChance, YMCA Chief Operating Officer Joseph Manzoli, Director of Human Resources Mary Jane Dinsmore and Director of Community Relations Elizabeth Covino. YMCA of the USA President/CEO Neil Nicoll shared plans for a new national campaign and some new signature programs the Y is developing to increase the Y’s positive impact in the community. Among those new programs are: Live Strong at the Y Cancer Survivor Program and the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, both programs to be offered soon at the YMCA of Greater Nashua.

Among the keynote speakers were NY Times Best-Selling Author Malcolm Gladwell and Sanjay Gupta, MD, Chief Medical Correspondent for CNN. There were three days of leadership development workshops as well as networking opportunities for the nearly more than 4,000 Y volunteers and staff from around the United States and abroad to learn from each other.

The YMCA General Assembly occurs once every three years and is billed as an opportunity for staff, members and community volunteers to focus on the work being done at 2,700 YMCA facilities nationwide to help children develop in healthy environments and to strengthen families and communities. The Y is a cause-driven organization that is for youth development, for healthy living and for social responsibility.
