Al Green, Salman Rushdie Coming to The Music Hall

Both appearances were announced on Monday.

The Music Hall announced today that soul icon and eight-time Grammy winner Al Green will perform at the historic Portsmouth theater on Tuesday, Aug. 28.

"Al Green is an American treasure with the voice of an angel," said Patricia Lynch, The Music Hall's executive director and lead curator. "He sets the bar for soul music, and to watch him perform is magical. We can't wait to welcome him to The Music Hall! There's no better way to celebrate the end of summer."

The Aug. 28 show, part of the "Intimately Yours" series, starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale to members on June 2 and to non-members on June 16.

Green was just one of two big name appearances announced by The Music Hall on Monday.

Author Salman Rushdie will present his latest work, "Joseph Anton: A Memoir" on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the "Writers on a New England Stage" series. Tickets go on sale to members o June 2 and to non-members on June 16.

"Rushdie's journey and literature is unique, and we are honored to have this international literary star in our series," said Lynch. "Not only are his novels phenomenal, but he has a story of persecution that must be shared. I cannot wait to hear form him and to share his tale with so many."
