Rye Rescue Run For Marine Mammals Set For May 2 At Odiorne Point State Park

The Seacoast Science Center will hold its annual Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals on May 2 at Odiorne Point State Park in Rye.

Meredith Village Savings Bank is the presenting sponsor for the event, which the center describes as its largest annual fundraiser. The fundraiser supports the center’s marine mammal rescue program and its conservation, education, and outreach efforts.

The Seacoast Science Center is a nonprofit marine science education and conservation organization located within Odiorne Point State Park. The center works in partnership with the New Hampshire Department of Parks and Recreation and serves as a regional hub for coastal science, nature-based learning, and community conservation. Its Marine Mammal Rescue program staffs a 24/7 hotline and responds to reports of marine mammals that haul out or strand on the shore in New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts.

“The Rescue Run has become a favorite community tradition, and it’s always inspiring to see people of all ages come together in our stunning coastal setting,” Kate Leavitt, the executive director of Seacoast Science Center, said. “We invite runners, walkers, and families to join us for a fun and welcoming event that also helps support the work behind our marine mammal rescue efforts.”

MVSB said it is sponsoring the event as part of its community support efforts. “We’re glad to support an event that brings people outdoors and strengthens the community’s connection to Seacoast Science Center,” David McMahon, the MVSB Branch & Business Development Manager in Portsmouth, said. “The Rescue Run is a great opportunity to celebrate New Hampshire’s beautiful coastline and the Center’s wildlife conservation work, while taking part in a tradition and effort that so many look forward to each year.”
