The event is aimed at prospective students at different stages of the process, from people who have not yet applied to those who have already been accepted and are ready to choose classes.

"This event is for prospective students in any phase of the application process, including those who have not applied or those who have been accepted and are ready for advising and registration," Steve Gorman, the director of GBCC Admissions, said. "The goal is for you to leave this event registered for fall classes."

Great Bay said fall courses start Aug. 31, Sept. 28, and Oct. 26.

The college said classes are available in several formats, including in-person on campus, online and hybrid, as well as a hyflex approach that allows students to self-design their attendance preferences.

The Aug. 11 event will also include information and support on financing options for what the college described as a debt-free college education. Granite Edvance will hold a FAFSA Open House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the college's Express Admissions Day event. In-person support will be available to answer questions about the FAFSA form and help people fill it out, according to the announcement.

Gorman said the timing of the event reflects how some students make decisions close to the start of a semester.

"Many students make their college decision in the weeks leading up to the start of the semester," Gorman said. "At the same time, growing numbers of students are prioritizing affordable education, flexible schedules, and programs that lead directly to employment or seamless transfer to a four-year university. Express admissions helps students quickly complete the process so they can secure the courses they want and begin the semester ready to succeed."

The college's stated goal for the event is to help students move through multiple steps in one visit before fall classes begin. For prospective students still weighing options, the Portsmouth event is set up to combine admissions, advising, registration and FAFSA support on the same day.
