1. Portsmouth Public Library: Virtual Cooking Class: A Taste of Korea! On Sept. 8 (patch.com) — Portsmouth residents can look forward to a virtual cooking class, A Taste of Korea, hosted by the Portsmouth Public Library on September 8. The library-produced announcement highlights a cultural food experience that locals can enjoy from home, expanding community programming beyond traditional book-focused events.
   

2. Shaheen requests $5M to study 'sailor campus' at old Portsmouth Naval Prison (nhpr.org) — A major study could be coming for the long-abandoned Portsmouth Naval Prison, as Sen. Jeanne Shaheen seeks $5 million in federal funds to explore turning it into a "sailor campus." The proposal would examine reusing the landmark building next to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for recreation and support services for sailors whose submarines are in for repairs, potentially redefining the future of the historic site.
   

3. Liv Clark wants to make period products and birth control free across the Seacoast (granitepostnews.com) — Free period products and birth control could soon be available at multiple Portsmouth locations, including an outdoor pantry with the Portsmouth Housing Authority and a supply cart at Breakaway Cafe. Rochester resident Liv Clark is rapidly building a Seacoast-wide network of donation-funded pantries, with local businesses like ReCreative + Co. in Portsmouth pitching in web and marketing support to expand access.
   

4. Portsmouth man survived 9/11 attack at Pentagon, then searched for dead (seacoastonline.com) — Portsmouth resident and retired Army colonel Shawn Walsh is sharing his firsthand account of surviving the 9/11 attack at the Pentagon and helping recover victims in a new memoir. Now semi-retired and living in the city since 2010, Walsh hopes his story of sudden responsibility and service will resonate with younger generations and honor the 184 people killed there.
   

5. The Music Hall has a new CEO in time for fall (vermontpublic.org) — Portsmouth's Music Hall has named Markus Gottschlich as its new president and CEO, effective Sept. 1, giving the landmark theater fresh leadership before the busy fall season. The venue has been without a permanent chief since last November, when its previous CEO resigned after controversy over canceling a fundraiser for a Seacoast abortion provider, amid broader funding challenges for arts groups.
