Artist Curated Book Displays at Portsmouth Public Library
Seacoast artists create display of items to inspire.

PORTSMOUTH, NH - The Portsmouth Public Library has revived their Artist Curated Book Display series, with an exhibit and display created by artist Kate Crowell, shown throughout the month of January.
Crowell studied at the University of New Hampshire, as well as the University of California in Santa Cruz, and Brandeis University, according to a press release. Her abstract paintings reflect a melding of real life and thought, emotion and meaning. According to Crowell, her paintings are sometimes “internally and anonymously driven and sometimes they are provoked by a memory, a dream or by the sound of music.”
With ideas as the center and the beginning of each work, it’s no wonder that Crowell’s exhibit at the library will feature books on poetry, symbolism, myth, psychology, and philosophy. Visit the display and find out what motivates and inspires her.

The Artist Curated Book Display program is an opportunity for artists to share their work with the public and to emphasize how the public library is a resource for creativity.
“We are so excited to restart this series,” said Jennifer Moore, library assistant and creator of the program. “It’s one of my favorite things to do. We love to share our favorite books with people, and it’s a joy to give local artists a chance to do the same thing. Their eyes just light up!”
