Brentwood Man Sentenced on Firearm Charges

Johnathon Irish, 28, of Brentwood, was sentenced in United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire to 18 months in prison on firearms charges, including one count of aiding and abetting a false statement in connection with the acquisition of a firearm, and one count of lying to a federal law enforcement agent, announced United States Attorney John P. Kacavas.

In February 2013, Irish lied to a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation while he was being interviewed about his personal firearms. Several months later, in September 2013, Irish instructed another individual to purchase a firearm for him, and to lie on the firearm purchase form, thus circumventing the legally required background check.

United States Attorney John P. Kacavas praised the efforts of law enforcement in this case and said “ensuring that persons who violate the prohibition against possessing firearms are brought to justice is a central mission of my office. We will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to enforce federal gun laws.”

This prosecution arose from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Brentwood, New Hampshire Police Department. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney for the District of New Hampshire, John P. Kacavas, and Assistant United States Attorney Nick Abramson.
