Children's Author/Illustrator Duo at Seacoast Science Center

Nancy Donovan and Susan Spellman celebrate release of "Wild Dolphin Rider" on National Dolphin Day, April 14

Join Seacoast children’s author Nancy Donovan and illustrator Susan Spellman on National Dolphin Day--this coming Tuesday, April 14--from 5-8 pm at the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH, to celebrate the release of their latest illustrated children’s book, Wild Dolphin Rider. Aimed at children age 6-10, Wild Dolphin Rider is a fantasy-based adventure about a young boy magically enabled to spend a day at sea with a wild dolphin pod, sharing in their adventures, and learning about their special abilities and challenges--from hunting tricks to lightning storms to drift nets! The celebration will feature food, prizes for children, reading, sketching, and books for sale; with access to the center’s touch tank.

Donovan--an active marine docent at the University of New Hampshire--writes to engage children’s sense of wonder, respect, and joy at the natural world. She was inspired to write Wild Dolphin Rider after realizing how both dolphins and humans interact through play. Wild Dolphin Rider is published by Peter E. Randall Publisher of Portsmouth. Donovan and Spellman have previously collaborated on the Seacoast classic Oscar the Herring Gull.
