PORTSMOUTH, NH — Portsmouth fire and rescue teams were called to a chimney fire on Friday on Coakley Road.

Around 6 p.m., all fire companies were sent to the home, and the first arriving firefighters found a fire in the attic.

“Preliminarily,” Egan said, “(it) is believed to be accidental from the stove pipe conducting heat to the wooden framing materials in the attic space.”

Firefighters from Newington provided mutual aid, Egan said.

The department reminded residents to have chimneys inspected and cleaned annually by a professional and keep anything that could burn at least three feet from stoves.
