Earth Day, Country Music Legends This Weekend

Strawbery Banke Museum needs volunteers for annual clean-up; Merle Haggard and Roseanne Cash to play at Music Hall; "Animal Farm" at Players Ring.

As most city residents know, there is never a shortage of fun things to do or places to go in Portsmouth. Each Friday, we will offer five suggestions for people who are planning out their weekends.

1. Merle Haggard at Music Hall: Country music legend Merle Haggard and The Strangers will perform a concert on Friday night at the Music Hall at 8 p.m.

2. Earth Day clean-up: On Saturday, Strawbery Banke Museum is looking for volunteers for its annual Earth Day clean-up from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.

3. Roseanne Cash live: This Country music legend will also perform in concert at the Music Hall on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Portsmouth Singers/Songwriters Festival.

4. CD release party: The Press Room will present Juliet and the Lonesome Romeos on Saturday at 9 p.m. as part of a CD release party. $5 cover charge at the door.

5. "Animal Farm" at Players Ring: The Players Ring will present George Orwell's classic "Animal Farm" on stage on Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. on Sunday at 7 p.m.
