Eddie Edwards was supposed to debate Andy Sanborn Thursday night. Both are candidates for the Republican nomination in the first congressional district. The debate would have given voters an insight into the candidates' political views. But Edwards refused to sign the NH GOP required pledge to support the eventual Republican nominee. As a result, he was not allowed to participate in the debate.
Edwards apparently feels that Sanborn in an unfit candidate and has stated he will not support or vote for him if he becomes the nominee. That's his choice and he is certainly entitled to it. But his refusal of loyalty to the party will cost him endorsements, financial support and most importantly, votes. If he truly feels his opponent is an unworthy candidate, the better course of action would have been to campaign hard and explain to voters just why Sanborn does not deserve to be sent to Washington. It would have given him a good chance at victory. Instead, what Edwards has done is alienate party officials and loyal Republican voters. In all likelihood, his actions Thursday evening have cost him any chance at winning the primary. Yes, Eddie, your goose is cooked. And the chef was you!
