Award- winning violinist and pianist appear at New Castle Congregational Church as part of Historic Portsmouth Chamber Music
Emily Daggett Smith, violinist and Tanya Gabrielian, pianist will perform this Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 3:00pm at New Castle Congregational Church as part of the Historic Portsmouth Chamber Music series. This concert is the second of four performances that will be held in historic churches in the greater Portsmouth area. The series is produced by the Portsmouth Athenaeum. A $20 at-the-door donation is suggested.
Violinist Emily Daggett Smith, winner of the Juilliard concerto competition who made her New York City concert debut at Alice Tully Hall, and Tanya Gabrielian, internationally acclaimed and award winning pianist, combine their talents in a program of sonata duets: Igor Stravinsky’s brilliant Suite Italienne for Violin and Piano, Beethoven’s exuberant and playful Sonata No. 1 for Violin and Piano Op. 12, and Cesar Franck’s Sonata for Violin and Piano. Franck’s sonata, perhaps his most famous work, is a tour de force for both instruments, from its subtle and ethereal opening movement, to the fourth’s glorious finale.
