"Lift Off" Memorial Bridge party

The first ever "Lift Off" bridge party to celebrate the 88-year-old Memorial Bridge will be held today from 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will offer live music, food, games and fireworks. Gov. John Lynch and former Portsmouth Mayor Eileen Foley are scheduled to to a tie-in ceremony at 4:30 p.m. The event is being held to commemorate the life of the bridge that was ordered permanently closed to all motor vehicle traffic in July by New Hampshire Department of Transportation officials for safety reasons.
