Poetry Hoot with Elizabeth Edwards & Bill Varner

Tonight's Portsmouth Poet Laureate Program Poetry Hoot  features Elizabeth Edwards and Bill Varner as well as the open mic.

About the poets: Elizabeth Edwards is a past National Endowment for the Arts/Maine Arts Commission poetry fellow and her first collection of poetry, "The Chronic Liar Buys a Canary," was published in 2004 by Carnegie Mellon University Press.   Her work has appeared in many journals, including Witness, the Antioch Review, Ploughshares, the Southern Review, the Cream City Review, Artful Dodge, Cimarron Review, Carolina Quarterly, the Florida Review, the Sycamore Review, and Sports in America, an anthology of sports writing, Wayne State University Press.  Elizabeth has taught poetry at Emerson College and at the University of New Hampshire. She is currently the communications director of an IT consulting and engineering company headquarted in Kittery, Maine.

William Varner's poems have appeared in Boston Review, Smartish Pace, The Cincinnati Review, Cimmaron Review, Green Mountains Review, Folio, Harpur Palate, The Greensboro Review, MiPOesias, and elsewhere.  As senior editor for a literacy education publisher, he has acquired, developed, and edited hundreds of books and videos, winning awards from the National Council of Teachers of English, The American Historical Association, The Association of Educational Publishers, and others.  He also has to turn down a lot of good projects, and worries that his manuscript Excerpts From the Log of Spiritual Misdemeanors suffers from his bad karma.  He lives in South Berwick, ME.
