Gifts and food are all very nice, but for peace on earth, good will toward women and men, head to The Players' Ring for 'Not On This Night.' The play, by Evelyn Jones of Exeter NH, is set during the darkest part of World War II: December 24, 1944, in the Ardennes Forest, just before the Battle of the Bulge. A French farm girl, determined to celebrate the season despite the war, encounters two lost soldiers, a German and then an American. Despite their fear and distrust, her courage and good spirits create room for them to put down their arms for a time, and even to laugh together.
'Not On This Night' runs November 25 – December 4, 2011. Show times are 8 pm Fridays and Saturdays, 2 pm Sundays.
Meant to warm the heart in a cold season, the play illustrates 'the humanity of living life open to the possibility of goodness in everyone.' (The Portland Phoenix). Danica Carlson plays Jacqueline Brulet, Brian Kelly plays Reinholt Shultz, and Samuel Bennett plays Eddie Miller.
