Over the past nine months since its opening, Federal Cigar Bar has firmly established itself as the premier destination for cigar enthusiasts in all of New England. Situated directly below Federal Cigar’s brand new shop, patrons access the spacious cigar bar and lounge via a special side entrance. Along with exposed original brickwork, stone foundation, and structural beams portending the building’s past, the Cigar Bar boasts a large, full-service granite bar, gorgeous granite tabletops, comfortable leather seating, 60 cigar lockers, and an oversized smoke exhaust system that constantly eliminates smoke and brings in fresh air. The Cigar Bar carries an incredible selection of rare and exclusive cigars, such as MY Father Centurion Toria, EPC Medalla D’ Oro or Headly Grange Snare Drum, plus an extensive selection of select liquor and craft beer.

Federal Cigar opened its doors in 1921 in downtown Portsmouth, and by the late 1930s had become a center for politics, current events, town business and more. For more than 30 years, Federal Cigar has hosted the state’s only Matchbook Poll, which gives customers the chance to “vote” for their favored candidates each election. With Federal Cigar’s own deep-rooted history in Portsmouth, the Federal Cigar team viewed the new building as an opportunity to revitalize a historic structure by giving it new life, while at the same time locating the business back in the heart of the city.
