In the movie, “As Good As It Gets,” Jack Nicholson tells his woman of interest, “ You make me want to be a better man.”

In reality, before you meet a potential partner who makes you want to be “a better you,” should you already be on a self-improvement plan?

In other words, if you want to meet an ambitious person who has interests or talents, and they are working on improving those interests or talents, shouldn’t you be doing likewise?

So…if you currently do not have a self-improvement plan, where do you start? Well…google of course!

Take a moment to reflect on three key areas: Professional life, Physical fitness and Personal interests.

Professional life: What are you currently working on to improve your job skills? Individuals who are continually working to improve, earn professional success and satisfaction. Either you are improving or growing stale. For example, suppose you meet a new person, and you are interested. However, when they begin whining about work, how attractive does that look? Bitching is a real turn-off. Don’t you agree?

The flip side is that you begin whining about your job, a new person will soon lose interest.

Physical Fitness: If you are like too many Americans, you can stand to lose a few pounds. The best way to make this happen is to make physical activity a part of your life. With regular exercise, you will lose weight, improve your health and of course, meet like-minded people.

Personal interests: Have you ever painted? Would you like to? How about learning to play an instrument? How about learning a new language? With the available resources on line, there are currently a multitude of opportunities to learn, literally, any language which strikes your fancy. Perhaps, learning to speak French will motivate you to take the trip to the south of France? Learning to speak Spanish may motivate you to take the trip to Ibiza, where the jet-set parties.

If you are single, understand this: For every 100,000 population, there are nearly 1900 singles, of the opposite sex, and in your age group. There are no excuses. Amongst this group, there has to be more than a few singles you would be very happy to meet and bring into your life.
