'Fireworks! Music for Trumpet and Organ by G.F. Handel' Oct. 4

Concerts on the Hill offers an ensemble of three trumpets, organ and soprano to wrap up performance series.

Concerts on the Hill presents “Fireworks! Music for Trumpet and Organ by G.F. Handel” on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at St John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, according to a press statement.

Trumpeter Robert Stibler and organist Margaret Harper will be joined by trumpeters Mark Zielinski and Adam Gallant, and soprano Jenni Cook as they play a selection of Handel’s baroque style pieces. The concert begins at 4 p.m. There is a suggested at-the-door donation of $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. Children under 16 are welcomed and encouraged to attend at no charge.

Handel, one of the giants of the baroque, wrote glorious music for trumpet – the instrument of kings – and for organ – the king of instruments. “Fireworks! Music for Trumpet and Organ by G.F. Handel” will feature much of this music, including a special arrangement of selections from “The Royal Fireworks.”

“Handel wrote some of the most recognizable pieces for trumpet and organ,” noted Margaret Harper, performing organist and Director of Music and Liturgy at St. John’s Episcopal Church. “As we wrap up this year’s Concert on the Hill series, it seemed fitting to end with a bit of fanfare and ‘Royal Fireworks’.”
