Heidelberg Farms Releases E-Book on Organic Lawn Care
The term 'organic' demystified by accredited organic lawn care expert

Accredited by the Northeast Organic Farming Association, Heidelberg Farms recently released an E-Book on organic lawn care practices. According to Owner Steve Phillips, the purpose of the book and recent public presentations he has given is to demystify the term ‘organic.’
“We hear the term ‘organic’ a lot, but what does it mean?” he said. “When applied to lawn care practices, it means processes that do not involve any chemical fertilizers or synthetic pesticides.”
In becoming accredited as a provider of organic lawn care services, Phillips said he learned that the term ‘organic’ is often misapplied even within his own industry.

“There are companies out there that interpret ‘organic’ in creative ways that unfortunately are just not accurate,” he said. “I hope my E-Book and From The Roots Up organic lawn care programs can help homeowners understand organic lawn care. There are things we can do right now to give back to the earth and help rebuild it from ‘the roots up.’”
According to Phillips, a healthy self-sustaining soil food web will detoxify or decompose harmful substances like excess salts and chemicals, improve the structure of soils, increase water holding capacity, improve root depth and root health, and help maintain aerobic conditions.

“There is an entire world right underneath your feet,” he added. “Soil and dirt are not the same things.”
