Last Chance: Library to Present Poetry, Music

Poet Diana Durham and cellist Dorothy Braker will perform at the Portsmouth Public Library on Thursday, April 5, at 7 p.m.

The Portsmouth Public Library will present "An Evening of Poetry and Music" on Thursday, April 5 at 7 p.m. in the Levenson Meeting Room.

According to library officials, the performance will combine the spoken word with the voice of the cello, weaving snatches of Bach, Bartok, Bloch, Rutter, Saint-Saens, Tchaikovsky and others together with new sonnets and free verse from Durham.

Diana Durham holds an M.A. in English Literature, University College of London (UK) and is an independent and New Hampshire Humanities Council scholar. She is the author of The Return of King Arthur: Completing the Quest for Wholeness and two books of poetry.

Dorothy Braker, cellist and founding director of Aliento Chamber Players, Inc. is a graduate of the Juilliard School.   Her numerous performances have included the Lincoln Center and Paul Hall in New York City, The Bennington Museum in Vermont, the Newberry Library in Chicago and Avery Fisher and Alice Tully Halls.
