Learn to Write Your Own Novel
November is NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month and the Portsmouth Public Library has a program Tuesday to kick things off.

November is National Novel Writing Month, also known as NaNoWriMo.
Every year, writers everywhere join together for support, encouragement and motivation as they attempt to write 50,000 words in 30 days. You can sign up for the challenge at nanowrimo.org, but only in Portsmouth can you find in-person connection, free pizza, drinks, and an open mic night, thanks to the library.
The Portsmouth Public Library joins in NaNoWriMo for the fifth year in a row, hosting several events for participants:

A NaNoWriMo Kick-Off will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at the library. Learn some writing (and coping) strategies from local author Jeff Deck, test your skills in a writing boot camp activity, and enjoy free dinner courtesy of Flatbread Pizza.
Once you begin the challenge, visit the library for two “write-ins” during the month, on Wednesday Nov. 18, from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday Nov. 22, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the library. Free snacks, coffee, and tea will be provided, and you can even borrow a laptop for the session.

Finally, on Monday, Dec. 7, the library will host a NaNoWriMo Wrap Party and Open Mic at the Book & Bar on Pleasant Street. Winners who’ve written 50,000 words during the month will receive one free drink each. Discuss your writing struggles, and read an excerpt from your work. All are welcome – not just winners or writers.
