Lecture to kick off busy season for American Independence Museum

Historian Richard Kruppa will facilitate the lecture, which will include singing, as he will play the guitar, banjo and baritone ukulele.

A lecture on Wednesday, May 4 at 7 pm that will shed light on the little-known stories that surround some of our most beloved American songs will launch a busy lecture season at the American Independence Museum. Historian Richard Kruppa will facilitate the lecture, which will include singing, as he will play the guitar, banjo and baritone ukulele. The program will include songs like Yankee Doodle, Old Folks at Home (Swanee River), Alexander’s Ragtime Band, and Goodnight Irene.

“This is the first of both evening and lunch lectures that will highlight history in fun and creative ways,” said Museum Executive Director Julie Williams. “We look forward to welcoming Mr. Kruppa and the other distinguished authors and historians we have on tap for 2016.”

Entitled Historic American Songs and How They Came To Be: Our Beloved Songs and Their Amazing Stories, the 2016 season’s first lecture will take place at 7 pm at the Museum’s Folsom Tavern, 164 Water Street in Exeter. The lecture is free and open to the public.
