Liberty Mutual Supports Portsmouth Non-Profit Helping Veterans Adjust To Civilian Life Through Free Martial Arts Training

Veterans Martial Arts Training (V-MAT), a free martial arts training for U.S. Veterans, receives an $18,614 donation from Liberty Mutual

Veterans Martial Arts Training (V-MAT), a free martial arts training program for U.S. Military veterans, reserve and active duty members, announced a recent donation of $18,614 from the Dover office of Liberty Mutual Insurance.

V-MAT is a private, not-for-profit 501(3)(c) organization that utilizes martial arts training to help veterans, reserves and active duty U.S. Military members attain physical, mental and spiritual life balance – regardless of age, physical, or mental challenges.

Participants in Liberty Mutual’s 22nd annual Mulligans event - which included a golf tournament at Wentworth by the Sea Country Club in Rye, and other activities - raised $$9,307. Liberty Mutual matched all donations to bring the total donation to almost $19,000.

“Liberty Mutual’s operations in southern New Hampshire come together each year to support a great cause in our communities,” said Mark McVeigh, senior vice president of distribution for Liberty Mutual Benefits. “V-MAT plays an integral role in helping veterans reintegrate into civilian life after their service to our country, and we are proud to support such a great organization.”

According to Scott Lombardo, V-MAT founder, instructor and trustee, martial arts training is ideal for helping veterans adjust to civilian life. “When a warrior comes home from battle, it can be a difficult transition. The camaraderie, discipline and balance required in martial arts are similar to military training, creating a natural connection with veterans that helps them manage the characteristics required to handle the stresses of daily life.”
