Linda Briolat Chooses to Keep Teaching at Little Harbour School
Portsmouth resident decides to put off retirement following 30-year career so she can teach Fourth Grade math again.

Some school administrators will often say the best teachers teach because they love what they do and they never tire of seeing how their hard work helps their students learn regardless of the grade level.
This is why Little Harbour School Principal Charlie Grossman believes Linda Briolat decided she wanted to return and teach Fourth Grade math this fall after she initially retired following 30 years of teaching scores of Portsmouth children there.
Several attempts to reach Briolat for comment were unsuccessful because she and her husband had gone away on vacation.

As he worked with school staff to ready the building for the first day of school on Aug. 28, Grossman said he is very pleased that Briolat decided to return for another year and also that the Portsmouth School Board was able to bring her back after she made her decision.
Grossman said Briolat made her decision to retire three years ago when she knew she would reach 30 years in 2012, but as the school year drew to a close, she realized she wanted to keep teaching.

Grossman said like many dedicated teachers, Briolat felt she still has more to contribute to the school children and wants to continue to do what she loves the most.
He said while there may be some teachers who would look forward to retirement after completing such a long tenure, there are others like Briolat who are so passionate about teaching they realize how much they would miss it.
Much to the delight of Grossman and his teaching staff, Briolat will be ready and waiting to teach Fourth Graders math when school opens on Aug. 28 the way she has for 30 years.
