We all know there’s a plethora of things to do on Friday and Saturday in Portsmouth, but what about the rest of the week? What are all the locals up to on a Tuesday night? Whether you are a Portsmouth townie or someone swinging through for a couple weeks, what we are about to disclose is knowledge that not everyone in the area might know and some may even consider a secret.

Of course, there’s stuff happening in town just about every night in the summer. Portsmouth is a beautiful town and there are so many things to try, so many places to eat, but that can also get expensive. So how could you get the Portsmouth experience, on a weekday, on a budget? Well, you’re in luck! Here’s a list of things to do on the off nights in Portsmouth, without hurting the good ‘ol wallet.

Mondays: Prescott Park: Movie Night

From cult classics like “Labyrinth”, to modern blockbusters like “Guardians of the Galaxy”, Prescott Park Arts Festival holds a movie night every Monday at sunset. The best part is that it costs whatever you think is fair: a suggested donation! Get there early, reserve your spot with a blanket and come back when the sun goes down, its movie time!

Tuesdays: Portsmouth Brewery: $1 Taco Night

Every Tuesday night from 6:00 - 11:00 pm, in the downstairs section of the Portsmouth Brewery known as the Jimmy Lapanza Lounge, they have the best deal in town: $1.00 Tacos! There’s a taco for everyone: beef, pork, chicken, and veggie. Served on a white flour tortilla, these dollar tacos are a steal and they’re awesome too! Get there early, because they WILL sell out.

Wednesdays: Blue Mermaid Island Grill: Open Mic Night

Wednesdays starting at 8:30 pm is the Blue Mermaid Island Grill Open Mic Night. Think you can sing? Think you can rap? Come show off your skills to a warm local crowd and listen to fellow musicians as they hone their craft at one of the more laid back joints in town. From any type of genre, to any level of skill, anyone brave enough to rock the mic is always welcome!

Thursdays: Thirsty Moose Taphouse: Thirsty Thursday (Featured Brewery Night)

thirsty-moose.jpg?w=300Also known as Thirsty Thursdays, the Featured Brewery Night at the Thirsty Moose Taphouse in Portsmouth is a great way to discover new beer as well as eat some great food without dishing out big bucks. Every Thursday they feature a different brewery, give out free samples of beer from that week’s guest and serve their brick oven pizza at half off, all day long!

Sundays: Street: Brunch

This one is a must try, at any and all cost! Already considered as one of the tastiest, most original menus of Portsmouth, Street whips up their brunch menu only on Sundays. Just like the other items that made our list: come early, come hungry and come ready to experience what could very be the best brunch you’ve had since grandma’s Eggs Benedict.
