Loose Load Shuts Down I-95
New Hampshire State Police, emergency responders called to Portsmouth for crash.
On May 8, 2015, at approximately 1:28 p.m., New Hampshire State troopers assigned to the Troop A barracks were called to an accident on the onramp to I-95 northbound from Market Street in the City of Portsmouth, according to a report.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Western Star Tractor, being driven by a man from Eddington, ME, made a right turn onto the I-95 northbound onramp from Market Street. The tractor-trailer combination unit was transporting a large piece of construction equipment on a flatbed trailer, according to the statement.
As the driver negotiated the right hand turn, the load shifted, causing the trailer to rollover and disconnect from the tractor. The trailer rolled over and the construction equipment broke loose. The trailer and construction equipment came to a final rest in the middle of the onramp. The construction equipment being transported was a large industrial pile driving hammer.
