Love is in the Air This Weekend in Portsmouth

There will be plenty of music, song and dancing to welcome Cupid and his quiver of arrows.

As most city residents know, there is never a shortage of fun things to do or places to go in Portsmouth. Each Thursday, we will offer five suggestions for people who are planning out their weekends.

1. Father/Daughter Valentine's Day Dance: The Connie Bean Recreation Center is hosting the 18th annual Father/Daughter Valentine's Day Dance on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. It will also be the last Valentine's Day dance hosted there. $10 per couple. The event is open for girls in grades K-5 and they can be accompanied by their dads, uncles, brothers or grandfathers. 

2. Ed Gerhard at the Rep: Grammy Award winning acoustic guitarist Ed Gerhard will perform a romantic concert at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre on Sunday at 7 p.m. in honor of Valentine's Day.

3. Soweto Gospel Choir at Music Hall: On Monday night, the Soweto Gospel Choir will perform at the Music Hall on Monday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. that will be followed by a special encore performance during the candlelight vigil at the African Burial Ground on Chestnut Street following the concert.

4. See Vaudville ReVamped: The Seacoast Repertory Theater's White Hot Winter series kicks off this weekend with "Vaudville ReVamped," directed by Emmy Award Winner Bill Humphreys. It is a hilarious and nostalgic look at the racy and raucous side of theatre is sure to please everyone with an old soul. Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m. and general admission is $20 and parental discretion is advised.

5. Discover Portsmouth Center: The Discover Portsmouth Center on Middle Street is always a great place for families to learn more about the city's history and cultural heritage.
