Maine Man Loses His Life in I-95 Rollover in Portsmouth

NHSP: Rodney Hoverson, 54, of Harpswell, ME, lost control of his SUV near Exit 3; he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The New Hampshire State Police have released the name of a Maine man who died in a crash on I-95 North in Portsmouth on Sept. 1, 2015.

Rodney Hoverson, 54, of Harpswell, ME, was driving north on the Interstate in a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero near Exit 3 when he drove off the left side of the road. He then re-entered the paved portion of the highway and attempted to regain control of the vehicle as it began to rollover several times, according to a preliminary investigation of the crash. The vehicle again went off to the left and into the grass median and stopped near the southbound lane of the Interstate.

“Hoverson was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled over,” according to Sgt. Keith Walker of the NHSP. “Hoverson was transported to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he died from his injuries sustained in this accident.”

Three lanes of the highway – two of the northbound side and a single lane on the southbound side – were closed for about two hours while an investigation was conducted.
