Museum thinks "outside the box" to support its mission

Beer for History takes place on June 23

In an effort to raise awareness of its collection, which includes rare signed George Washington letters in addition to an original copy of the Declaration of Independence, the American Independence Museum has created a Beer for History event series.

Sponsored by Hoefle Phoenix Gormley & Roberts, P.A. Attorneys at Law of Portsmouth, the next event in the series takes place on Thursday, June 23 with more than 100 expected in attendance. Museum Executive Director Julie Williams said the idea behind the series was to creatively highlight the importance of history.

“History can sometimes intimidate people,” she said. “We want to be approachable and accessible, which led us to create Beer for History.”

Citing the financial support of Main Sponsor Hoefle Phoenix Gormley & Roberts, P.A. Attorneys at Law of Portsmouth as “instrumental to Beer for History’s success,” Museum Operation Manager Rob Levey said various brewers have also “stepped forward.”

“Neighborhood Beer Co., 7th Settlement and D.L. Geary Brewing Company from Maine have all offered their support and incredible craft beers to support our cause,” he said. “Aside supporting our collection preservation plan, Beer for History draws attention to Exeter itself. This is a beautiful town with a lot of amenities, but that often gets overlooked by people outside our immediate area.”

Featuring craft beer, live music and local food and entertainment (a magician performed at the last event), Beer for History takes place on June 23 and October 20. Tickets are $30 and include food, samplings of beer, games for kids, and more. Members of the Museum may purchase tickets at a discounted rate of $25.
