Music, Theater and History Abound This Weekend

The Capitol Steps will bring "Desperate Housemembers" to Music Hall; Parker Wheeler Blues Band to rock the Press Room; Discover Portsmouth Center offers rich city history.

As most city residents know, there is never a shortage of fun things to do or places to go in Portsmouth. Each Thursday, we will offer five suggestions for people who are planning out their weekends.

1. See Charles Bradley at Music Hall: Charles Bradley and the Extraordinaires will perform at the Music Hall on Friday at 8 p.m. Bradley, who many critics say is the new James Brown, should put on a great concert.

2. Don't miss The Capitol Steps: "Desperate Housemembers" will be performed at the Music Hall on Saturday at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The comic troupe of former congressional-staffers-turned-comedians return to Portsmouth for a 14th annual concert supporting affordable housing development.

3. Parker Wheeler Blues Band: Enjoy some live music at the on Saturday night with the Parker Wheeler Blues Band at 9 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge.

4. See Vaudville ReVamped: The Seacoast Repertory Theater's White Hot Winter series kicks off this weekend with "Vaudville ReVamped," directed by Emmy Award Winner Bill Humphreys. It is a hilarious and nostalgic look at the racy and raucous side of theatre is sure to please everyone with an old soul. Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday night at 8 p.m. and general admission is $20 and parental discretion is advised.

5. Discover Portsmouth Center: The Discover Portsmouth Center on Middle Street is always a great place for families to learn more about the city's history and cultural heritage.
