Musicians to Meet 2012 RPM Challenge

The deadline for the Wire's annual call for CDs produced by local artists is Thursday at 12 noon.

The Wire’s offices on Vaughn Mall could be bursting at the seams with hundreds of musicians on Thursday morning who will scramble to submit their CDs to the magazine before the 12 noon deadline.

Wire Editor Matt Kanner said they expect to see hundreds of musicians from the Portsmouth area and beyond who will submit CDs with at least 10 songs and 35 minutes of music to showcase their talent as part of the Wire’s RPM Challenge.

Now in its seventh year, the event allows musicians and artists to share their work with The Wire which will then showcase several of the songs in different locations over the next several weeks.

Kanner said the RPM Challenge has attracted as many as 800 people in the past. He said it is open to people from anywhere who just want to be creative and share their work with other artists.

The event is more of a celebration of the creative spirit and is not a contest of any kind. The Wire has seen some very good music come out of this event over the last seven years and expects to see more this year.
