New Heights Provides Adventure Opportunities for All Ages in 2017

Seacoast-based organization continued to innovate and surprise participants.

Celebrating its 30th year in operation, New Heights has distinguished itself through innovative adventure programs that provide youth with opportunities to experience success in multiple ways—and 2017 is no exception.

“We have 6 extended trips coming up between now and July,” said longtime Adventure Coordinator Sally Gregory. “We're going to the desert in Utah, an Island in California, White, Green and Adirondack Mountains, and the Ocean in Cape Cod.”

Noting these programs are primarily for high school age youth with one geared toward middle schoolers, Gregory also expressed excitement for their first ever Adult Expedition, which will take participants to Utah.

“We have heard from many parents for years that they wanted to experience a New Heights trip,” she said. “They are structured in a way to foster communication, leadership and self-empowerment. These are skills adults can fine-tune, too.”

In further explaining the rationale behind New Heights’ adventure trips, Executive Director Tracey Tucker cited research.

“Extensive studies have shown that well-constructed adventure programs provide youth with opportunities to experience risk in acceptable ways as well as learn life lessons that cannot happen behind a desk or in an office,” she said.

In addition to the adult trip to Utah, other trips include a canoe expedition to the Adirondacks.

All of New Heights’ adventure trips still have available openings, although they are filling up fast.
