New Music Fest Coming to Seacoast area Saturday, June 2
Revel in the Meadow to feature top musicians and artisans in a family-friendly event to kick off summer and help local youths
SOUTH BERWICK, ME - On Saturday, June 2, Spring Hill in South Berwick, Maine will be the back-drop for Revel in the Meadow, a new music festival designed to celebrate the music, art, and beer of the region, while raising funds for students pursuing their artistic passions. The family-friendly event will feature seven original bands, artists displaying their wares, locally-crafted beer, and food trucks in the biggest backyard on the Southern Maine/N.H. seacoast – all to benefit the Continuum Arts Collective (CAC), which provides support-challenged youths with the materials, mentors, and methodologies to achieve their goals.
The noon-to-dusk Revel fest will feature The Mallet Brothers Band, The Suitcase Junket, Gretchen & the Pickpockets, The Reconstructed, Young Frontier, Tristan Omand, and the Soggy Po Boys. General admission/$20 and $75/VIP (or $125 for a pair), which includes early entry, prime parking and festival t-shirts. Kids 12 or under get in free with a parent or guardian. The event is rain or shine.
Tickets are available at: http://revelfest.net
“Revel’s lineup is made up of musicians who write, record, and perform authentic, intrinsic music,” said Martin England, president of Continuum Arts Collective. “We wanted to shine a light on how much amazing talent we have here in the Seacoast by including Gretchen & the Pickpockets, The Reconstructed, Young Frontier, Soggy Po Boys, and Tristan Omand. On a national front, we have The Suitcase Junket and the Mallet Brothers Band, who both embody the collective spirit of touring bands that are uniquely original and don't get caught up in the trappings of their own music scene. Overall, every band brings dynamism to the mix. All can play super-quiet, cerebral songs while also possessing the ability to drop the hammer and shift into overdrive at any given moment.”
More than 20 regional artisans will display and sell their wares. For kids there will be a bouncy house, hot air balloon rides, yard games and the Society of Creative Anachronism will host Renaissance activities.
Food vendors at Revel 2018 will include the Blue Mermaid, Kerry's Culinary Creations, Portsmouth Catering Company and Spring Hill, just to name a few. Tributary Brewing from Kittery, Maine is the beer sponsor, and will have several varieties of their delicious, hand-crafted beer, including their legendary Pale Ale. Cheers!
While the draw is the music, artisans, food and family fun, the cause is note-worthy. National studies show a direct relation between students who participate in arts/music and increased grades and attendance. Arts education also provides a healing mechanism for childhood trauma.
Continuum Arts Collective’s mission is to assist underserved, school-aged artists and musicians residing in York County by providing them with musical instruments, art supplies, and instruction for both. CAC recognizes that supporting the talent of a school-aged artist or musician is simply not feasible for many families and, as such, it seeks to remove any barriers between students and the music and art they wish to create.
“In its first year, all students who took music lessons through CAC’s program were at-risk for dropping out of high school. Once they engaged with music and art lessons, 100 percent of these students improved their grades and graduated on time,” said England. “Additionally, our supported students continue to gain confidence and poise through the performance and art showcase opportunities we regularly provide.”
To date, CAC has served more than 125 students with instruments and art supplies and is currently paying for lessons for 31 students at Noble High School, SAD 60. CAC hopes to double those numbers in 2018.
Continuum Arts Collective is an all-volunteer organization. All profits go toward serving students. This is provided thanks to sponsorships from socially conscious businesses and organizations and a stalwart volunteer core. Revel in the Meadow sponsors include Aggregate Recycling Corporation, Aberrant Sound, C&J Bus Lines, Justin Perry Builders, Bright & Lyon Productions, Mainspring Center, Scott Strynar Landscape Architect, Hussey’s Seating, DealStream, Harbor Hair, Tributary Brewing, Marcia Ginuisz - Realtor, Underground Drive, Maine Pet Supply, P.
