New York Man Arrested on Burglary, Drug, and Gun Charges
Portsmouth Police arrested Barkym Brown last week at a local hotel after developing him as a burglary suspect.
PORTSMOUTH, NH — A New York man was arrested last week on numerous felony charges after allegedly burglarizing a Middle Road residency and stealing guns, according to Portsmouth Police. Barkym Brown, 36, of Burke Avenue in the Bronx, NY, was arrested on Aug. 27, 2016, and charged with being a fugitive from justice, burglary, felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of possession with intent to distribute-cocaine, heroin, all felonies, as well as possession of burglary tools.

Police were sent to Middle Road on Friday for a report of a burglary where several guns were stolen. According to Lt. Mark Newport of the Portsmouth Police Department, “during the course of the investigation a suspect was developed and located staying in an area hotel located on Woodbury Ave. in Portsmouth.” Police received assistance from the Seacoast Emergency Response Team (SERT) and Strafford County Tactical Special Operations Unit and arrested Brown.

“The defendant was arrested by tactical units after being contacted and negotiated out of his hotel room by a team negotiator, where he was taken into custody without incident,” according to Newport. “Brown was wanted on a Felony Bench Warrant from Superior Court in New York City, NY,” and charged by local police, on the numerous charges. He was held on $75,000 cash bail and arraigned on Aug. 29.
