PORTSMOUTH—Greetings! My name is Tammy Joslyn and I am the executive director of Operation Blessing in Portsmouth. ONE DAY TO SERVE is a one day event where we serve the Portsmouth Housing Authority (PHA) community by sending teams of volunteers to help beautify/clean up the 10 PHA properties here in Portsmouth. In 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were unable to hold the event. I am very excited to announce we will be serving the PHA community once again on Saturday, May 22, and we would like to extend the opportunity for you and your organization to join us!
ONE DAY TO SERVE is an opportunity for many people to come together and serve their community. Seacoast area neighborhoods are transformed by people who are eager to help others in need. Your group will transform a neighborhood in a single day by:
*Picking up trash
*Raking
*Spreading mulch/loam
*Painting
*Washing windows
The best part is that this event is LOCAL, EASY and FREE! ONE DAY TO SERVE is not just a day of service. IT IS A MIRACLE! It's where 300-500 volunteers from all over the Seacoast work together for the same cause.
With our lives as busy as they are, it can be hard to find the time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering are enormous to us, our families and our community. Volunteers are often the glue that holds our community together and allows us to connect to our community and make it a better place. The gratitude is seen in the typical reaction of those being helped:
*“Oh, thank you!”
*“This is so nice!”
*“I can't believe it's free!”
*“Why are you doing this?”
Kindness builds the bridge for a person to receive a touch of hope and love. It’s simple, practical, effective, and fun! There is power and impact by “showing love in practical ways.” Again and again we’ve seen relationships born from these simple acts of kindness. We believe very strongly in the power of serving our community.
