Oyster River Cycle & Sport Opens in Downtown Durham

Spring has sprung, and with it, fresh growth and renewed spirit has blossomed in Durham, New Hampshire. That growth and new beginning is Oyster River Cycle & Sport – a new full-service bicycle repair, sales, and rental shop.

It all spurred from a single text, a subsequent meeting, and a lifelong dream…

Oyster River Cycle & Sport is co-founded by Durham resident Brian Keegan and his business partner Paul Berton.

The idea for the shop stemmed from a longtime goal of having a full service bicycle shop in Durham to help increase the knowledge in the Oyster River community of bicycling in and around the area. Keegan has been working in the bicycle industry since 2004 and has been riding and racing bikes his whole life – including his time as a member of the cycling team at the University of New Hampshire, where he graduated in 2005.

Berton, also no stranger to the area, has been riding bikes his entire life and has been an active member of the Durham community for over 30 years now. The two partners are a dream team when it comes to an amalgamation of the cycling industry and the celebration of communal facing good.

“My vision and ultimate goal for the shop is for it to be place for everyone to come in and be an active part of a community that not only ride bikes for fun and fitness, but as a tool to for personal and community development,” voiced Keegan. “I am here to help everyone learn how to use bicycles to their fullest . This is truly a dream come true for me and I want to share my passion with everyone so that we can all enjoy cycling and spending time outdoors in the Oyster River Region.”

Oyster River Cycle & Sport is open Tuesday-Friday from 9am - 5:30pm, Saturday from 9am to 5pm and Monday afternoons during the Durham Farmer’s Market. The shop offers a full range of service offerings to get your ride up to snuff and functioning at an optimal level, as well as providing an assortment of new and used bikes for sale as well as applicable clothing and gear for riders of all skill levels and demographics. Clinics are also offered to help riders feel more confident in the use of their bikes. The shop also offers rentals for all your riding needs and is available as a resource to answer any questions you might have.
