Pair From Rye Arrested After Fight At Portsmouth Pub

Cops: Jack Mackey was charged with robbery for taking patron's cellphone, throwing it in the Piscataqua for recording Paul Mackey fighting.

PORTSMOUTH, NH — An early morning fight at a local bar led to the arrest of two men on various charges, according to Portsmouth Police. Paul Mackey, 62, pictured right, of Alehson Street in Rye, was arrested on two counts of simple assault and disorderly conduct. Also arrested was Jack Mackey, 22, same address, for robbery and falsifying physical evidence, both felonies, as well as disorderly conduct. Police were sent to the Dolphin Striker on Bow Street at just after midnight for a report of a fight, according to Sgt. Jonathan Aubin of the Portsmouth Police Department.

“The on-scene investigation revealed that Paul was involved in an altercation with another patron and during this, a witness was using their cellular phone to video the incident,” Aubin alleged in a press statement. “Jack is alleged to have approached this witness and questioned the videotaping before grabbing the witness by the neck and physically taking their phone.”

After reportedly taking possession of the cellphone, Jack Mackey allegedly threw it toward the Piscataqua River.

“Officers searched for the phone but it was not found,” Aubin stated.

The elder Mackey was released on personal recognizance bail while the younger was released on $1,500 cash bail. They are both due in court for arraignment on Aug. 21.
